The Self Help as a basic tool in the integrated health and social
During the conference organized by the Faculty of Medicine, University of Milan in the European Year of Disabled Persons (2003) entitled: "High Tech ... High Touch. The lesson of disability for a more humane medicine, held in Milan on January 10, 2004, was presented to the graduate course entitled "HEALTH PROMOTION AND SELF HELP FOR TEACHERS AND OPERATORS OF SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES", organized by Dr. ssa Elizabeth Cofrancesco for the Faculty of Medicine and funded from the Social Fund European Region of Lombardy.

In 1994, the 'U.S. National Institute of Health funded a study on burns, which showed that the "Therapeutic Touch" to be effective:
- in the reduction of'
anxiety - in the diminution of pain perception
- to facilitate the body's natural healing processes.
Since 2001, the NIH is funding a Phase II clinical trial (ie, number of cases between 100 and 300) on the effects of Reiki on painful neuropathy and cardiovascular risk in diabetic patients.
E 'in the course (2002-2004) a study on the effectiveness of Reiki in the treatment of fibromyalgia, to work at the University of Washington (3935 University Way NE - Seattle, WA 98195 - nassefi@u.washington.edu)
Albert Einstein Healthcare Network is conducting (2001 - 2003) scientific research on the effectiveness of Reiki in cases of advanced AIDS (trueg@aehn2.einstein.edu).
